Remembering Karl Tremblay: Jean-François Pauzé Announces Return of Jean-Karl’s Shack and New Duo Shows with Marie-Annick

Two months following the death of Karl Tremblay, Jean-François Pauzé gave news to Cowboys Fringants fans. While a new album from the group should be released shortly, the songwriter announced that he would start the podcast once more Jean-Karl’s shackwhich he had launched during the pandemic with his late colleague, and which he would also like to do small duo shows with Marie-Annick.

It was on the paid platform Patreon, a few days ago, that Jean-François Pauzé gave news to subscribers of the Shack in Jean-Karl. Before the death of Karl Tremblay, the two musician friends put on online shows every month for their subscribers. They ceased their activities in October, because Karl’s state of health no longer allowed him to sing.

To his great surprise, Jean-François Pauzé said he realized that since Karl’s death, more people have subscribed to their Patreon account than people who have unsubscribed. This interest seems to have convinced him to continue this podcast “in memory of Karl”.

“It was a privilege for me to do intimate shows with my old pal in the last year before he passed away. These are unforgettable memories for me. We had lots and lots of fun. Let’s try to preserve his memory and honor him,” he said in an audio post on Patreon.

In the coming months, the songwriter plans to do episodes where he will receive Karl’s friends. “We’re just going to chat freely for an hour, talking regarding what Karl was to us, the friendship in general that we had for him and anecdotes that are linked to him. […] I think it’s going to be a beautiful little project that will warm everyone’s hearts.”

Jean-François Pauzé also announced that he would like to do the Jean-Marie project, with his colleague Marie-Annick Lépine, a bit like what the Jean-Karl duo was. “We can be annoying together, but we adore each other. I think she would be very supportive, although I haven’t asked her to do small shows with me yet. The Jean-Marie duo might be back on stage and I think it might be funny, a little nod to all that.”

The songwriter indicated that he also wanted to use the Patreon platform to possibly talk regarding his new projects. “Obviously it’s a new life for everyone. I planned to make music with the Cowboys until I was 75, like the Rolling Stones. But obviously, life has decided otherwise. So we have no choice but to change course and make new projects.”

Among these new projects is the new Cowboys album, which is due out this year. On Facebook Saturday, Marie-Annick Lépine wrote that she “sincerely thought that the next Cowboys Fringants album will be [leur] best in career.
