Jimmy Decat, a 43-year-old Belgian, tragically lost his life this Saturday followingnoon while driving his bus. For reasons still unknown, the vehicle veered off course and crashed into the ditch. According to information from HBVL, the victim, who was alone in the bus, was ejected from the vehicle and landed on the roadway.
A team of rescuers attempted to resuscitate Jimmy for over 45 minutes. He was then transferred in critical condition to Jessa Hospital in Hasselt, where he died.
“We are all very touched by Jimmy’s death,” said Patrick Lismont, the mayor of Montenaken, where Jimmy was from. “He was a jovial guy, very involved in life and who left us much too soon. We will miss him at the café and at the pool table,” he adds.
Tributes have poured in since the death of the forties. His colleagues from De Lijn did not work on Saturday. “He was very outgoing and very committed, everyone misses him,” said Kristof Schiepers of the Glad Gingelom party, to which Jimmy belonged. “He was also a hard worker. He was a bus driver and did his job with dedication. He did not participate in strikes, and he was always ready to replace a colleague,” he adds.
