At the age of 87, Francisco Brugnoli, prominent Chilean visual artist who led the vanguard of national visual art, died.

Its history began with the first studies at the School of Fine Arts of the University of Chile.

He also studied at the PUC School of Art, and completed a postgraduate degree at the International University of Art in Florence in Italy.

Brugnoli was a teacher at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Chile, at the PUC and at the Central University.

Along with the above, he was the founder of the Art School of the ARCIS University.

In the 1960s, together with the artist Virginia Errázuriz, he joined the group Los Diablos, a nucleus of art and politics that emerged in the context of the university and whose work has been associated with the critical reception that Pop Art had in Chile, according to the portal of Chilean Visual Artists.

In his career, he exhibited in multiple countries, which led him to serve from 1998 to 2021 as director of the Museum of Contemporary Art.

It was an extensive period in which he promoted modern art, even bringing Spencer Tunick to Chile, the photographer who made the first great discovery in our country with the famous nude photo.

Brugnoli was also known for investigating the country’s political, social and cultural contingency through his art with works built from everyday objects.
