Remembering our fallen heroes
The annual NASA Memorial Day celebration at Arlington National Cemetery took place on January 25. The event honors the Apollo 1 astronauts; the Challenger and Columbia space shuttles; and other members of the NASA family who lost their lives advancing the cause of exploration and discovery for the benefit of all.
NASA leadership holds town hall on employee safety
Earlier in the week, NASA held a town hall on employee safety at the agency’s headquarters in Washington. During the event, NASA leaders explained how the core value of safety embraced every day within the agency is the cornerstone of NASA mission success.
NASA’s Ingenuity helicopter completes mission to Mars
NASA’s Ingenuity Mars Helicopter, the first aircraft in history to perform powered, controlled flight on another planet, has completed its mission following nearly three years on the Red Planet. During landing on a recent flight, one or more of Ingenuity’s rotor blades were damaged and the helicopter is no longer capable of flying. Ingenuity, which was designed to conduct up to five experimental test flights over 30 days, completed 72 flights and flew more than 14 times farther than planned while logging more than two hours of total flight time.
Third private astronaut mission arrives at the Space Station
Axiom Mission 3, the third private astronaut mission to the International Space Station, docked with the orbital complex on January 20. The Axiom Space crew was welcomed aboard by the station’s Expedition 70 crew, including NASA astronauts Jasmin Moghbeli and Loral O’Hara. Axiom Space astronauts are expected to remain on the space station until February 3.
