David Soul, one of the stars of the hit television series Starsky & Hutch, died Thursday at age 80. The sad news was confirmed by his wife, Helen Snell, with a heartbreaking message. With a few heartfelt words, the woman remembered her partner as a great man who dedicated his life to art and family.

“David Soul, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away yesterday after a brave battle for life in the company of his family. The actor rose to fame thanks to Starsky & Hutch, a police action series broadcast between 1975 and 1979 on ABC, in which he shared the lead role with Paul Michael Glaser, who gave life to Starsky. There they played a duo of detectives who won the public’s affection thanks to their unconventional, but effective, techniques to combat crime.
