Everton’s historic president Bill Kenwright dies after a battle with illness

The English club Everton announced on Tuesday, through its account on the “X” website (formerly Twitter), the death of its historic president, Bill Kenwright, at the age of 78, after a long struggle with cancer that lasted for many years.

Everton said in its statement: “Everton FC is in a state of mourning after the death of Chairman Bill Kenwright, who passed away peacefully last night, at the age of 78, surrounded by his family and all the people who loved him. The club has lost a president, a leader, a friend and an inspiration to many people.”

The club statement added: “The prayers of everyone at Everton, and their thoughts are with his wife Jenny Seagrove, his daughter Lucy Kenwright, his grandchildren and everyone who knew and loved him.”

Kenwright assumed the responsibility of team president, succeeding Philip Carter, in 2004, where his presidency continued until his death, making him the longest in his position in the history of the English club. Before that, he was a member of the board of directors since 1989.

The former president of Everton was also a theater and film producer. He bought 68 percent of the club’s shares in 1999 and became vice chairman of the board of directors.
