(Keystone-ATS) A figure from Renens, Anne-Marie Depoisier, died on Saturday in her 81st year, her family announced on Tuesday. For nearly thirty years, the socialist climbed all the levels of municipal politics, until joining the union from 1998 to 2006. She also sat for 26 years on the benches of the Grand Council, which she chaired in 1999.

Born in 1943 in Geneva, where she grew up, Anne-Marie Depoisier arrived in the western city of Lausanne in 1968, quickly participating in the community’s social activities. A member of the PS, she entered politics in 1977, during a legislative election.

In 1986, this trained teacher joined the municipality, then in 1998 became the first woman union member in Renens. In 2006, the popist Marianne Huguenin succeeded him in this position.

Multicultural city

Anne-Marie Depoisier fought to highlight the assets of her city, a multicultural city which was not just a suburb of Lausanne. In 2006, it sounded the alarm to demand the modernization of its station, which has now become an important railway hub. From 2007, Renens also welcomed an art school (ECAL) then a gymnasium (2016), to name just a few successes.

Anne-Marie Depoisier served for more than a quarter of a century on the Vaudois Grand Council (1986-2012). During the chaotic counting of the federal elections of October 2011, she chaired the Management Commission of the Grand Council, which took up the subject. From 2006 to 2013, she also chaired the board of directors of public transport in the Lausanne region (tl).
