Andre Braugher, here at the 2013 Emmy Awards, has died at the age of 61

TELEVISION – Captain Raymond Holt is in mourning. The interpreter of this iconic character from the series Brooklyn Nine Nine, Andre Braugher, is dead. The actor died at the age of 61 following an illness, as confirmed by his agent to Variety. Married to actress Ami Brabson, he leaves behind three sons.

The actor who initially played rather dark roles before turning to comedy, was known for having played Frank Pembleton in the series Homicide. This role earned him an Emmy Award in 1998, an award he won once more in 2006, this time for Thief.

In a press release, NBC paid tribute to an actor who inspired his colleagues. “ He gave Detective Frank Pembleton a righteous ferocity and a quiet dignity. In addition to his prowess as a dramatic actor, his talents in comedy were also on full display as the determined and passionate Captain Holt in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” His performances will continue to inspire future generations and he will be greatly missed “, we can read.

More discreet in the cinema, he had given the answer to Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington, in the noticed Glory the very first battalion of black volunteer soldiers during the Civil War.

During his career, Andre Braugher was nominated no less than eleven times for different awards, including four only for Brooklyn Nine Nine. In this series which ran for almost eight seasons, from 2013 to 2021, the actor played a black gay police captain, with a particularly cold and strict character who clashed with the team jester played by Andy Samberg. The latter has not yet officially reacted to the announcement of Braugher’s death.
