Cycling Star Evenepoel Faces Recovery After Training Accident
Double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel suffered multiple fractures in a training accident on Tuesday and is set to undergo surgery.
Evenepoel was initially taken to the Erasmus Hospital in Anderlecht after the incident. Following a preliminary assessment, he was transferred to Herentals Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Medical professionals at Soudal Quick-Step, his cycling team, will collaborate closely with hospital staff to determine the best course of action for his recovery.
Extent of Evenepoel’s Injuries
The team confirmed that Evenepoel sustained fractures to his rib, right shoulder blade, and right hand. Further examinations revealed contusions on both lungs and a luxation, or dislocation, of his clavicle.
Surgery Planned, Two-Week Immobilisation Following
“The clavicle will be operated on this evening, which if successful, should allow Remco to leave hospital tomorrow,” Soudal Quick-Step stated. “There will then be a two-week period of immobilisation required following this, after which a plan for his return to training can be made.”
Soudal Quick-Step Expresses Gratitude and Well Wishes
The cycling team also extended gratitude to the Herentals Hospital staff for their care and support. “We wish him a speedy recovery!,” they said.
