Fernande was born in Thuin on July 4, 1914, a few days before the start of the First World War. Today, 109 years later, she is still here, her head full of memories.
A great sense of humor and excellent health. We asked him what his secret was. “I didn’t do anything sensational“, she says. “A household, a husband, children, a house,… and on the way. A secret? If it’s secret, it’s not said.“
In the 1930s, she studied pharmacy at university. She later married and had three children. It was only following all this that she managed a pharmacy in the center of Charleroi. Until a few months ago, she still lived at home. “I wasn’t doing everything anymore but I was still doing a lot“, says Fernande. “Cooking didn’t bother me, washing clothes was another problem but you can’t do everything.“
A true source of inspiration for the other residents of the rest home. “She is a remarkable woman and I hope everyone can continue this“, says Véronique, 65 years old.
In total, Fernande has 7 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. His loved ones are admiring. Fernande is in her right mind and has always kept in shape. “We find her amazing, always in good shape“, says Céline Jouret, wife of Fernande’s grandson. “It’s true that it’s incredible.“
And as Fernande told us so well: “As long as it’s okay, it’s okay.”
