The crisis that Cubans are suffering makes, many times, selfish attitudes and “every man for himself” prevail. However, certain facts show that honesty has not died, despite adverse circumstances. An example of this is that a seller in Cárdenas, Matanzas province, returned a $1,000-peso bill that a buyer gave him by mistake. The woman herself, whose name is Eliodora Biart Lavastida, published this Friday details of the event in the Cardenenses group on Facebook.
“Today, despite the difficulties we are going through, I feel very proud to be a Cardenense! And today I leave here a photo of a street vendor who passed by my house yesterday and instead of paying him 300 pesos I gave him 1,200 pesos, confusing a thousand bill with a 100 bill. My big surprise was that he returned early with my bill a thousand,” he said.
“God bless him and that ticket is multiplied 1000 times more in health and wishes fulfilled, there are still good people, my respects for him,” concludes the publication that shows a photo of the seller.
According to the woman, the man wanted to maintain discretion regarding his action and his identity. However, she found it necessary to acknowledge a gesture like hers.
Return $1000 pesos bill
The reactions to the publication did not wait, and all the comments praise the honesty of the man.
One netizen wrote that “honesty is a virtue of the soul, but it is also a teaching from the cradle.”
“See? There are still honest people, bravo to that boy who pedals every day and brings us delicious bread, keep it up boy,” said a man.
“I did not know that in the conditions that Cuba is in, there are people with that honesty that always characterized us Cubans, blessings for him,” added another user following reading the story.
In the comments the seller was identified as Yandris Mojena Guzmán, a resident of Cárdenas.
