The REM has been tested several times to ensure its proper functioning. Jean-Vincent Lacroix, spokesperson for the Metropolitan Express Network, says that it is therefore with confidence that the REM will make its first trip with passengers on board.

“We expect a break-in period,” he explains. “We may test it, we may do all kinds of checks, the real test is the people.”

The REM ticket is called “Tous modes AB”, a ticket that can be purchased, deposited and used on the existing OPUS card.

“From now on, it’s not a ticket for the REM, it’s that the REM comes on your OPUS card,” explains Mr. Lacroix.

Two-thirds of the parking space on the South Shore will be accessible free of charge. For the paid portion, the space works with INDIGO. Parking users can reserve their space, either for the month or the day, using the INDIGO website.

“Theoretically, in the summer we are less at risk of running out of space, but at the same time there will be a craze,” loose Mr. Lacroix.

The REM spokesperson estimates that there will be a desire to discover the REM this weekend, as this new mode of transport opens its doors to the public. “Avoid going back and forth several times,” suggests Mr. Lacroix. “Surely there will be people who want to try it multiple times, but everyone is going to want to try it.”

The spokesperson estimates that the total time of the round trip between Brossard and Montreal might take 1h30, rather than the 40 minutes calculated and planned for the crossing of the Pont-Champlain, since there might be clashes or queues waiting.
