In an overheated Bell Center, Simon Le Bon and his gang brought their nostalgic boat to safety. They even allowed themselves detours towards lesser known tunes.

Spectators witnessed a cross-decade epic brilliantly led by a group celebrating its 40-year history with its aptly named tour Future Past – 40th Anniversary.

Duran Duran arrived on stage in a triumphant entrance with all the theatricality the group is capable of. They have lost none of their sense of staging.

Still in their early sixties, the members of the group have exploded with their great success Hungry Like the Wolf. John Taylor, on bass, wandered from one end of the stage to the other with the enthusiasm of a young boy who discovers his sudden glory… As a bonus, we were treated to a well-rounded Simon Le Bon. voice, to a Nick Rhodes a little behind but essential to maintain an overall point of view.

It’s during Notorious that we might notice that everyone – or almost everyone – was standing at the Bell Centre. Not only on the floor, but also in the stands!

We felt a little relaxation in Lonely in Your Nightmare, but it’s very healthy that a group with such a catalog still allows itself some daring.

This little downtime was quickly forgotten by the combined vocal assault of Sirs John Taylor and Simon Le Bon on Is There Something I Should Know? Note that during this last piece, we might see a montage of the front pages of teen magazines from the 80s where we saw them so much.

But even without the editing, hearing their string of hits, you might understand why these guys still attract so many fans. The fun in the room was transmitted to the stage, and vice versa.

Hysteria during their great success Reflex proved it well. same for me Girls on Film which aroused passions.

Duran Duran stays fit and relevant, allowing themselves forays into their newer material.

Le Freak, it is still) Chic

In the opening act, Nile Rodgers and his Chic acolytes gave us a lesson in authentic disco-funk.

To make sure everyone understood from the start what to expect, they started their set with Le Freak.

Guitarist Nile Rodgers having composed for big names like Diana Ross, Bowie or Madonna, he did not hesitate to enhance his group’s singing tour with hits like Upside Down, Modern Love or even Like A Virgin. And it worked very well! Shortened versions, but effective.

Certainly, at times, their performance had hints of an office party disco medley. But since they were pioneers of the explosion of the genre during the 70s, we can forgive them for that.

And to finish, Chic went for it Good Times. It was indeed a good time. In addition, they integrated the Rapper’s Delight from which the piece comes.
