Religious tourism has started – Jehovah’s Witnesses bring 50,000 guest nights

Among the big religious events of this year, the Jehovah’s Witnesses Conference in July stands out, to which nearly 30 thousand domestic and foreign participants are expected, which is roughly 50 thousand guest nights means, writes a turizmus.com.

After twenty-one years, the international congress of the Jehovah’s Witnesses community will be held in Hungary once more this year, the large-scale event will be held in Budapest between July 5 and 7 at the same time as the Prague congress. The two main venues are the MVM Dome and the Groupama Arena, in the latter, participants can follow the events in real time with the help of seven LED walls, said Samu Attila, spokesperson of the Hungarian Jehovah’s Witnesses Church.

Three thousand people come to the congress from beyond the country’s borders, mostly from the United States, Japan, Finland, and Turkey, but many people also visit us from neighboring countries.

An additional 25,000 invitees from the 280 congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Hungary will join the event, eight thousand of whom will participate as volunteers, helping to run the event with their own expertise as interpreters, group leaders, and health professionals. Nearly 30,000 people will listen to biblical education in parallel.

By June, the participants booked nearly 24,000 guest nights, with an average stay of 8 nights, but many indicated that they expected to stay longer in the country.

Hungarian guests were also offered a number of accommodations. They reviewed a total of 230 Budapest and agglomeration accommodations and selected 60 of them for their online accommodation list. Hungarian guests booked more than 1,200 rooms for 2-3 nights until June, but many plan to stay for 6-8 nights and consider participation as their main holiday this year.

According to current data, the number of guest nights in Budapest accommodation can reach 50,000, and in addition, thousands more guest nights are expected in the surrounding settlements and in the agglomeration.

Many people came to Budapest because of Coldplay

In the past few weeks, we wrote regarding the fact that the other summer event that attracted a lot of tourists to Hungary was the triple Coldplay concert. More than 110,000 guests and 200,000 guest nights were registered in Budapest based on the data of the National Tourist Information Center.

The capital’s accommodation and traffic data skyrocketed when the world-famous British band gave a concert in the Puskás Arena on June 16 and 18-19, amid serious domestic and international interest, MTI wrote based on data from the Hungarian Tourism Agency. As they wrote, compared to the week before the concerts, the number of guests increased by 35 percent, and the number of nights spent by them increased by almost 30 percent in the capital’s accommodations. Foreign guests accounted for 88 percent of the traffic.
