Religious Oppression in Iran: Mass Arrests and Persecution of Christians

2023-08-18 12:13:26

As the first anniversary of the killing of a Kurdish woman following the hijab controversy approaches, Iranian police have arrested Christians and recent converts to Christianity en masse. According to the reports of a human rights organization that works for the freedom of Iranian Christians, since last June, religious police have detained many people from eleven cities of the country, including women, and the majority of them are still locked up in prison.

In many cities, including the country’s capital, Tehran, detainees are forced to sign a renunciation of Christianity before being released, and then sent to Islamic religious study centers. And a huge amount is charged as fine. Authorities are asking many to leave the country, and many are being fired for their Christian faith.
