Religion of child discovered in a church unveiled by Al-Azhar

Al-Azhar Center for Electronic Fatwa clarified the religion of a child who was found inside a church. The matter has multiple opinions of scholars, but according to Al-Azhar’s fatwa, if a foundling child is found in a church and the finder is not a Muslim, then he is on the religion of the one who found him. This opinion is what a group of Hanafis tends to.

The Hanafis’ text states: “And if he was found in one of the villages of the people of the Dhimmi, or in a sale or church, he was a Dhimmi.”
