The Association of Physicians and Higher Graduates of Madrid (Amyts) has recalled what bureaucratic tasks are not the responsibility of physicians, with the aim of freeing these professionals from said administrative burden. In a video posted from her Twitter profile of hers, Amyts details some additional responsibilities that should fall to other actors.
Among them is the preparation of school receipts. According to Isabel Vázquez, president of the Primary Care Sector at Amyts Madrid, this task should be carried out by the parents or legal guardians of the students.
Nor is it up to them, as Primary Care professionals, to carry out certificates of aptitude for weapons permit, driving or sports or leisure activities.

The key: refer to other professionals
The video also addresses the broadcast of the proof of attendance to the center, one of the most demanded requests. As detailed by Amyts, these are not the responsibility of Family specialists either. In these cases, when a patient requests this documentation, they recommend that they be referred to the center’s user care unit.
The last case they collect is that of the work or traffic accidents. If a patient comes to consult with a case of this type, his advice is to refer the patient to his mutual or to the auto insurer they have.
Pediatricians, tired of issuing more and more supporting documents
The growing demand for parents towards pediatricians also increases the bureaucratic burden of these professionals. It is common for physicians to be involved in the issuance of supporting documents both for the schools of minors, as for work permits of their parents or legal guardians.
Although pediatricians themselves often emphasize that their job is not to issue this type of supporting document, in many cases they are forced to do so to to allow that one of the parents can obtain the work permit to take care of the sick minor.
This situation puts doctors at a crossroads, since they see pressed to provide documents that are not properly within their competence, but that have a direct impact on the working life of parents.
On the other hand, the schools are also making more and more demands in this regard, since most request that the student’s absence be excused by a doctor. Faced with this, pediatricians have made it clear that the authorization or signature of the parents or legal guardians should be enough to excuse these faults, and that the doctors they have no obligation to issue said school receipts.
Bureaucracy, one of the nightmares of primary school doctors
The 2023 Physician Burnout and Depression Report already pointed out that paperwork, bureaucratic and administrative tasks represent one of the biggest sources of frustration for physicians in their day to day.
These professionals, who devote their time and energy to caring for the health of patients, are forced to face a overwhelming burden of paperwork and procedures that consume an important part of their working day.
The study highlights that 61 percent of physicians acknowledge that excessive bureaucratic tasks is the main source of stress in your daily routine. The need to fill out forms, complete reports, manage authorizations and comply with administrative requirements has become a charge depleted that undermines their ability to provide quality medical care.
For this reason, faced with this problem, associations such as the Spanish Society of Primary Care Physicians (Semergen) propose the application of a hybrid daya proposal that involves allowing professionals Group all administrative activities in the same day.
In this way, search to relieve the bureaucratic burden and provide a space dedicated exclusively to these tasks, which would allow doctors to fully use in caring for patients during the rest of their day.
