Authorities from the Ministry of Internal Trade (MINCIN) assured from their official media that April rice is already being distributed in eastern Cuba, something that is a relief for the population, in the midst of the current shortage.
According to this information, since the early hours of this Wednesday, April 3, the distribution of rice from the regulated family basket corresponding to April has been carried out in the provinces of Granma, Holguín and Guantánamo, in eastern Cuba. The process is carried out from the “Guillermón Moncada” port of Santiago de Cuba.
Directors of the Eastern Port Services Company confirmed that the staff is working on a piece-rate basis to speed up the unloading of the rice. Transportation to the different territories is carried out in harrows, trucks and railway boxes.
Officials assured that dozens of entities have made their means of transportation available to guarantee the distribution of the main cereal consumed in Cuba, in the midst of the usual crisis for the distribution of basic basket products.

Rice for the families of Santiago de Cuba is also guaranteed and is being distributed to the wineries as the port-transportation-internal economy process progresses. Work is being done in coordination with the nine municipalities to ensure rapid and efficient distribution, they said. This is how rice will be distributed in eastern Cuba.
As is usual in this type of operations, priority is being given to the observance of safety protocols to avoid accidents and any other type of incident, such as those that have recently occurred in the port of Santiago de Cuba. Remember that recently three stevedores at the port died while unloading rice for distribution in the warehouses.
Also from the east, it was reported that in Guantánamo, the distribution of rice and sugar from the basic basket corresponding to the month of March will be completed in the first days of April. The reasons for the delay are, as usual, the instability in the arrival of supplies to the province and limitations with transportation.
