Maraskino – “Today is the future” (jhruza records // release September 15, 2023)

“Today is the future – the day following tomorrow will be hard” is the ironic punchline of the party-positive electro-dance trio Maraschino. The casual translation of the Latin bon mots “carpe diem” and “memento mori” already implies an unbridled and extravagant penchant for intoxicating celebrations.
The vocoder and the keynote voice of Nancy Nuclear (Jessica Gaspar) alternate with allegorical allusions to refreshingly cheerful electronic music, which Bernhard Hammer (Electric Guzzi) knows how to breathe a lot of life into the guitar.

Oh alien – “Shining” (Assim Records // VÖ 08.09.2023)

The band’s name suggests being in contact with the unconscious self. Since the discovery of depth psychology, most people have somehow been aware that this unconscious alien in our soul guides our actions. So why not actively intervene in this process? The most effective means of doing this is certainly music. For example in the form of a happy song.
“Shining” is the name of this one, which attempts to shut up all mental spoilsports, pessimists and skeptics – i.e. all the voices in the head that have already turned their back on life – in order to create a suitable atmosphere for optimism. The result is a song that conveys a lightness and might therefore also be used well for product placement – without being banal. A song like a life hack. With producer Sixtus Preiss, this experiment was a great success.

RAHEL – “Schaffner” (Ink Music // Release September 8th, 2023)

A slight one is undoubtedly the new star in the indie sky. A more appropriate description would be a party captain around the bridge Rachels new single “Schaffner” to beat important German pop music. It doesn’t matter whether the influences of the old Neue Deutsche Welle come from the Humpe sisters (Ideal/2raumwohnung) twice Judith Holofernes (We are Heroes) are still very clear. The image and sound immediately convey the impression of a character who does not let his texts degenerate into a cultural battle front in order to appear current or relevant. Of course, music has always been and is political. That’s what she is too A slight one. But wrapped in lyrical lines. Who likes to listen to marching songs?
They are simple sentences like “Now do you see how good it is? That you stayed following all.”, which, as if by magic, trigger entire worlds of emotions and refrain from proclaiming a new world with a crowbar. That at A slight one All women pee standing up was clear in a metaphorical sense anyway. But she increasingly gives the impression of being an interesting ally rather than a radical rioter.

Better – “5mp3L” (I am pale) (Affine Records // VÖ 06.09.2023)

“5mp3L” as the title name already suggests something unconventional. The press release for Mieux’s new single describes the musical scenario very vividly. Repetitive stimulation, fuckyourrent dot lol, repetitive disorder (…) Felix Wolfersberger and Christoph Prager by BETTER obviously stir vigorously a few times. It bangs and crashes and never makes the syncopated brass theme seem boring. Suitable as an initial spark for the dance floor or as a soundtrack for wild tiktok timelines.
