The Release Radar is a monthly selection of single releases in the field of pop/rock/electronics made in Austria. The current publications summarized by Dominik Beyer.

LöweLöwe – “Flying” (LoeweLoewe // release 03.02.23)

“My mom put me straight to the piano following she came home from the hospital and I started learning the piano”says Christian Hummer in 2016 FM4-Interview.
After studying classical piano, extensive concert tours followed as the band’s keyboardist Wanda. For energy and time for his band lionlion he has to save Wanda last left. So two singles might be released and some demos and fragments might be recorded.
“Fliegen” is the first posthumously released single that Christian’s sister Marie Hummer finished and is now releasing a few months following his tragic passing.
The song condenses past relationships into a symbolic story. The refrain metaphorizes a feeling of longing with the words “time stands still when you fly”. The craving for temporary relief from the psychological burden that inevitably arises from unbalanced relationships, and certainly a theme for the musical genius (quote Marco Wanda) war, was blessed with as much talent as success and restlessness throughout his life.
On February 5th there will be a small tribute concert for Christian Hummer im Supersense give in Vienna.

Hunney Pimp – “The Best” (Big MonnNy // release 03/02/23)

Released with convincing seriousness and rhythmic skill Hunney Pimp with “Die Beseste”, a new banger, and announces their EP of the same name for April 20th. Unmistakably with Upper Austrian dialect, the brothel weaves a rhythmic network that – despite the cloudy production of Fid Mella and Lex Lugner – puts a lot of pressure on.

Yajin – “den” (Yajin // VÖ 27.01.23)

The strike is a young producer from Vienna. His tracks are transparent soundscapes. The single “den” sounds a bit like putting your ears into various bowls, pots and balls of a sound museum and being able to follow the sound waves as they penetrate one ear until they exit the other. Alienated vocal samples are crafted into interesting structures. Very James Blake-ish. The repetitive structure, which never makes a repetition sound like the previous one, is also well suited as a meditation exercise. For practice purposes, imagine that you are swimming on a leukocyte through the circulatory system of the bloodstream with your eyes closed and concentrate on all the sounds. With the fade out we can slowly open our eyes once more.

Gutlauniger – “Maybe” (Gutlauniger // release 01/27/23)

If everything gets on your nerves every now and then, narcissistic hustle and bustle following the real big emotions, sounds and trends, the unpretentious and entertaining artist is for you Gutlauniger heartfelt. He doesn’t even try to reinvent the wheel. Because the concept with Falco Timbre in the voice and 80s synthwave accompaniment might not provide the basis to conquer the international music world, but thanks to the charming lyrics and in every other respect it is an enrichment for the soul and the dance floor.
“Maybe” straight to the playlist!

EFEU – “In Vienna” (Assim records // release 01/27/23)

In their debut, the five funky “Falcos” from Vorarlberg sing regarding their beloved exile “In Vienna”. Because you get a different breath than in the Ländle. And so the young Romans dance staggering in testosterone-pregnated hangover chic through the streets and the green screen and treat themselves to sprayed white until their hearts freeze once more. But as they rightly sing, they’re too young to lose. In the spring there will be more songs of praise for boisterous night hikes in the puristically crisp band sound, and they help the sun to unfold the buds of love.

Picobello – “Let’s pretend” (Feber Wolle // release 26.01.23)

Picobello In their new single “Let’s act as if everything were fine” they deal with the ambivalent attitude of those who, unfazed by the burdens of our time, have dedicated themselves to hedonism. The cynical song goes to all the beautiful people who dance in their soap bubbles in ignorant ecstasy on the Danube Canal, or powder their noses on imperial roof terraces in order to sniff the heavens while they are still alive. They should show more compassion during the day, or rather at night. Of course, those who are not doing so well.
