A week following the inauguration of the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) in the State of Mexico, the President of the Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, acknowledged that it is necessary to resolve differences with residents of the area to make the passage of the suburban train and be able to reach the new air terminal in 45 minutes, from the center of Mexico City.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador asserted that the entire suburban train route, from Buenavista to the new airport, will have to be completed next year.

According to the calculations of the President of the Republic, the entire suburban train route, from Buenavista to the new airport, will have to be completed next year, but more than 10 kilometers still need to be cleared.

He stressed that the right of way from Buenavista to the Lechería station is already released, but the rest of the route is not yet.

“There is a lack of Lechería to the airport, it must be around 20 kilometers, but Sedena has already built 8 kilometers of roads; The only thing missing is that section, which must be 12 or 14 kilometers, and in that section there are still some protests and, through dialogue, we are listening to the neighbors already looking for an arrangement because we are interested in having the train. If we finish the train, it will take us until next year, I calculate that in the first quarter, it will be possible to travel 45 minutes from Buenavista to the airport, from the city center to the airport on that train, yes it is an important project and we are going to continue talking with the neighbors,” he said.

Before the media, in the Treasury room of the National Palace, the President said that all possible solutions are analyzed in order to reach an agreement with the inhabitants who see their lives disrupted by the passage of the communication channel.

He assured that the dialogue will have a good solution as in the rest of the works that his government heads in other states of the country, since people do not pay attention to the coyotes or the white-collar criminals who seek to affect the projects of the fourth transformation.

They give a cat’s hand to municipalities

Seven of the eight municipalities adjoining the Felipe Ángeles International Airport are being intervened by the Urban Improvement program, said the secretary of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development, Román Meyer Falcón, during the morning conference of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

The eighth neighboring municipality located in the state of Hidalgo will also be intervened for the following year, he added.

“We have made an important investment and the same as equipment, public spaces, housing actions, regularization of land tenure in the neighborhoods surrounding the airport, this is part of the programs that we have been carrying out in the improvement program,” he declared.

Update programs

At the end of the six-year term, the Sedatu expects to have 500 municipal programs updated that allow the coordination of human and ecological settlement laws, the head of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development, Román Meyer Falcón, said at the morning conference.

He gave as an example the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, where the Regional Development Program of the Mayan Train Corridor was formed, with the union of five states to have an urban improvement program.

“What is sought is that Chiapas, Tabasco, Yucatan, Quintana Roo, and Campeche update their ecological development and planning programs,” he said.
