Congolese opponent Franck Diongo Shamba was released on Saturday following nearly a month of detention, announced his political party, the Progressive Lumumbist Movement (MLP) and his lawyer, quoted by local media.

He left the Kinshasa-N’Dolo military prison for his residence in Kinshasa, UN radio Okapi reported.

His release was confirmed by his lawyer Me John Omehata, to the online news media Actualité.cd.

According to his party, the MLP, the military prosecutor considers that there is no fear for his flight and that he can at any time respond to the invitations which will be issued to him for the continuation of the pre-judicial investigation. of his file.

Arrested on June 20 by military intelligence in Kinshasa before being placed at the disposal of military justice, Mr. Diongo spent 26 days in pre-trial detention, including six in Ndolo and 20 in the military intelligence cell.

The opponent and resident of the MLP was transferred on July 8, from the dungeon of the military intelligence staff (formerly military detection of anti-homeland activities, DEMIAP) to the military prison of Ndolo.

This transfer took place following a brief hearing at the General Auditor of the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC).

He is accused in particular of his involvement in a fight in the Gramalique district of Kinshasa between the groups known as “Forces du progress and Mongo”. The political opponent and his party would be involved in this brawl. He is also charged with illegal possession of a weapon. Charges that his lawyers have always rejected, speaking of an empty file.
