After The Outer Worlds, Grounded and Pentiment, the Obsidian Entertainment studio has decided to return to one of its old licenses, Pillars of Eternity, to transform it into an ambitious first-person RPG planned for fall 2024 on PC and Xbox Series.
Introduced for the very first time at the July 2020 Xbox Games Showcase, Avowed is a first-person fantasy RPG developed by Obsidian. The studio, well known for its work on Fallout New Vegas or The Outer Worlds more recently, decided to re-use its old license, Pillars of Eternity, to expand its universe. Avowed is expected for fall 2024 on PC and Xbox Seriesand will of course be available from the day of its release in the Game Pass.
Unlike Pilars of Eternity, which offered gameplay in an isometric view for an RPG very focused on storytelling and the depth of its universe, Avowed is shaping up to be a game aimed at the general public, with gameplay focused on action. The adventure will still take place in the world of Eora, but in a new region: The Living Lands.
This wild and corrupt island is made up of different ecosystems, and is home to its share of mysteries, creatures and tribes. Throughout the adventure, you will be faced with choices that will have a major impact on the rest of the story, and your traveling companions, whom you will meet as you progress, will also have an important role to play.
The combat gameplay promises to be particularly rich and varied, since it will be possible to fight with many different weapons, but also with many spells, all while having the possibility of switching from one to the other very quickly.
Initially designed to be a cooperative game, Avowed will ultimately be an experience playable exclusively solo, in order to guarantee immersion and involvement in the narrative. The Obsidian studio specifies that this is the biggest project in its history in terms of development, which can only bode well given its reputation.
Avowed will be released in fall 2024 on PC and Xbox Series.
