In early April, at the presentation of Warner Bros. Discovery has officially announced the start of work on a TV adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s novels. The final Harry Potter film was released just 12 years ago, but the streaming service Max, which combined HBO and Discovery+, is ready to present a new version of the beloved story.

It is expected that the series will be divided into seven seasons (exactly according to the number of books), which will be released over ten years. HBO co-leader Casey Bloys said that the studio is going to present a deeper vision of each of the novels and create the most accurate film adaptation. To do this, J. K. Rowling herself will be involved in the filming as an executive producer. In addition, Neil Blair, who worked on the Fantastic Beasts franchise, and Ruth Canley-Letts, who helped bring Rowling’s detective stories written under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith to the screen, turning them into the Strike series, will also join the project.

Who will play Harry, Ron and Hermione is still unknown, but the presentation emphasized that the cast will be completely new. And yet, some publications are sure that Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson can return to their characters and embody their matured versions or appear in new cameo roles. Meanwhile, fans offer their casting ideas: for example, Severus Snape, in their opinion, might be played by Adam Driver, and Minerva McGonagall might be played by Helen Mirren.

The series is slated to premiere in 2025 or 2026, but the current writers’ strike might change the schedule, as happened with the final season of Stranger Things and the sequel to The Last of Us.
