Bernhard Reitshammer from Tyrol and Valentin Bayer from Lower Austria swam over 50 m breaststroke to the semi-finals (1.34 p.m. CEST) at the Long Course World Championships in Fukuoka in Japan on Tuesday. Reitshammer finished ninth overall in the heats in 27.11 seconds, Bayer was last in the top 16 in 27.36. Felix Auböck is also involved in the final session, namely in the final over 200 m crawl (02/13, live ORF Sport +).

The day before, the Lower Austrian had reached the semi-finals within 50 minutes and a successfully designed swim-off to complete the last place in the final, which is also why Auböck did not compete in the 800 m crawl on Tuesday. Martin Espernberger had his only start at the World Championships in Japan, the athlete studying in the USA finished 20th overall in the 200 m dolphin in 1:57.36 minutes. The 19-year-old Upper Austrian missed the semifinals of the Top 16 by 0.85 seconds. The 23-year-old Upper Austrian Cornelia Pammer finished over 200 m crawl in 2:01.66 min. Overall place 36.

“The second semi-final is good, then I hope for the first final here,” commented Reitshammer, 16th over 100 m breaststroke, on his performance. Bayer narrowly missed the semi-finals in 18th place over the 100 m distance and therefore went into the sprint “grumpily”. Reaching the semifinals is now also a good sign for the medley relay on Sunday. Pammer saw it similarly for the crawl relay on Thursday. Finally, Espernberger found his placement in the World Cup top 20 “super cool. That’s very motivating for the future.”
