Reinforcement of the Ecological Bonus in 2024: Impact on Electric Cars and Popular Models

2023-09-05 18:47:27

The Minister of Ecology has announced that the bonus will be reinforced once more in 2024, especially for the most modest. But she has almost confirmed that very popular models will be deprived of it!

We have known for a few months that the ecological bonus for electric cars will change in 2024. Its allocation will depend on a new eco-score. This will take into account the materials used for the car (bodywork, battery, etc.), the carbon footprint of the factory where the vehicle is assembled or transport between the factory and the dealership. It will be necessary to reach a minimum level of eco-score to have the bonus.

A gas plant that has one goal: to put a spoke in the wheels of Chinese manufacturers. But which can also affect vehicles of European brands made in China. At the height of summer, the government presented its draft method for calculating this eco-score. The period of consultation with the brands has just ended, the final formula should be formalized shortly. The brands will then have a few weeks to calculate the eco-score of their various trendy models. And we will therefore have to wait until the end of 2023 to know the final list of models with bonuses… and especially that of the models that lose the bonus.

But the Minister of Energy Transition has started to give names to the microphone of TF1. Agnès Pannier-Runacher thus indicated that the bad students will be especially the models produced in China in factories which use coal as a source of energy. And to be more precise by evoking the Dacia Spring and MG products, including the MG4. Which is no longer a surprise in the end, because we were already expecting to see these models deprived of bonuses.

The Minister also announced that the amounts of the bonus, for the models who will still benefit from it, will be reinforced. As a reminder, the aid has been €5,000 since January 1, 2023 and is increased to €7,000 for people whose reference tax income per share is under €14,090. The minister did not want to talk regarding the amounts, but indicated that modest people should receive more in 2024.
