THE Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora), Dito Ariotedjo emphasized that the 2024 Aceh-North Sumatra National Sports Week (PON) must have a positive impact, both in terms of achievements and the regional economy.
Dito also hopes that the venues that have been revitalized and built for PON can be utilized by sports federations and local governments in Aceh and North Sumatra to prepare steps to find further sporting events after PON.
Furthermore, Dito said that the central government is committed to supporting the sustainability of PON XXI Aceh-North Sumatra 2024.
“We will continue to support efforts to ensure the success of this event, both in terms of achievement and economy, as well as maximizing the use of existing venues after PON,” he said.
Dito also emphasized that all venues for the match are 100 percent ready for use, although some supporting facilities still need to be completed.
“There may be some supporting facilities that will be completed soon, but it does not affect the course of the match. So, for the match and the audience, everything is ready,” he said.

The opening of PON XXI Aceh-North Sumatra 2024 will take place at Harapan Bangsa Stadium, Banda Aceh on Monday, September 9, 2024, starting at around 19.00 WIB. PON 2024 marks the first time the national multi-event sports event has been held in two provinces simultaneously, namely Aceh and North Sumatra.
A total of 65 sports, 87 disciplines, and 1,042 match numbers were held in 20 districts/cities in Aceh and North Sumatra in the competition which also served as a stage to showcase the results of regional sports achievement development.
Four new autonomous regions (DOB), namely Southwest Papua, Mountainous Papua, Central Papua, and South Papua, made their debut at PON, which was also attended by the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) contingent.
At least 13,000 athletes compete to be the best until the closing ceremony in the national sports festival which is scheduled to take place on September 20, 2024. (Z-6)
