Indonesian badminton legend Susy Susanti assessed that the great enthusiasm of the participants of the 2024 PB Djarum General Audition is a breath of fresh air for the glory of Indonesian badminton. It is hoped that there will be a relay of the brilliant achievements that have been achieved by predecessors.

Susy is known to be one of the members of the talent search team at the PB Djarum General Audition this year. According to her, the high enthusiasm of the participants was seen not only from the number of participants, but also from the evenness of the participants’ techniques in various sectors.

“And (participants) are not only those who come from Java Island, but also those outside Java Island who are quite eye-catching. This is certainly a positive trend so that badminton regeneration is maintained,” said Susy when met at the Djarum Jati GOR, Kudus, Central Java, Friday (13/9).

Furthermore, the 1992 Olympic gold medalist also appreciated the struggle of the participants who participated in the PB Djarum General Audition more than once. According to him, this is in line with the criteria of the athletes he is targeting, namely not just players but fighters. One day before the General Audition final, Susy has also pocketed several candidates for Super Ticket winners.

“The main criteria are definitely technical ability, footwork, playing style, fighting spirit, and fighting spirit. I am very happy because this year many participants have a very good fighting spirit, that is an asset,” said Susy.

“Those who have participated in the General Audition more than once have that element. Spirit and struggle are the capital because they have felt how difficult it is to achieve their dreams. Because they consider failure not to discourage them but to learn from it,” continued Susy.

In addition to Susy, Liliyana Natsir and Tontowi Ahmad were also on the talent search team. They agreed that the General Audition and their involvement in the event were one of the efforts to maintain the chain of the badminton ecosystem in the country. Because athletes with a myriad of achievements were not born instantly, but through struggle and a long journey that began with coaching from a young age.

“This is a form of our contribution to Indonesian badminton. With the experience and instincts that we have, hopefully it can be useful. The most important thing is for regeneration to continue and not be interrupted. Especially the Olympic medal, the positive trend must be maintained. Well, it starts from recruitment like this, until continuing to Sirnas, joining the national training center, then the chance to be a world champion. We are the ones who are tasked with being observant in seeing the next potential champions,” said Liliyana.

“Yes, if previously we as athletes contributed to Indonesia by giving medals, now it is involved in the process of producing athletes who become world champion candidates. The most important thing that participants must have is definitely technique, but no less crucial is motivation and fighting spirit,” added Tontowi. (Z-6)
