Reigniting the Venezuelan Dream: Petro’s Alternative Horizon

The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, once again insisted this Wednesday on his proposal for an agreement in Venezuela, which guarantee political survival to whoever remains in the opposition role after the presidential elections on July 28.

“In my opinion, what I propose for Colombia is valid for Venezuela. “A national agreement that, in the Venezuelan case, seeks maximum guarantees for the opposition, respecting the upcoming electoral result.”said the president in his account on the social network X.

According to the Colombian, once this agreement is signed, all sanctions should be lifted:

Last week, Colombian Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo explained to W Radiothat the Petro Proposal was included in some documents that were sent to the parties. “We respect the sovereignty of Venezuela and the parties in the electoral process are quite focused on their elections and so we have not been able to make progress as we would like in making these proposals available, but there are documents that we have worked on and that are there so that they can consider”he declared.

The results recognition agreement was established in the call Barbados Agreement signed last November between the Unitary Platform and the Government and it also established a series of electoral guarantees, which the regime has progressively failed to comply with, such as respect for the selection of the opposition candidate and the electoral observation of the European Unionamong others.
