Sofico, the Walloon company for complementary infrastructure financing, announces the gradual start this Wednesday, August 16, of the project aimed at rehabilitating the tracks of the E429/A8 from Frasnes to Tournai.
“The construction site will actually begin on Monday August 21 and will modify the usual traffic conditions in both directions. The ramps of the Frasnes-lez-Anvaing interchange will be given priority before the start of the school year”, indicates the Sofico.
The work will concern the E429/A8, from interchange No. 31 Frasnes-lez-Anvaing to the Tournai interchange (E429/A8-E42/A16-E42/A8) towards France.
“It will aim to rehabilitate the motorway over its entire width, in other words hard shoulder, right and left lanes, over approximately 14 km. The concrete will be stripped bare and repaired locally. An anti -fissure will be applied over the entire surface. Two layers of hydrocarbon coating will be laid instead of one, thus improving the comfort of users”, adds Sofico.
In the direction of Tournai, the exit and access ramps of interchange No. 31 Frasnes-lez-Anvaing will also be treated.
Traffic changes
The work will lead to changes in traffic conditions. Thus, from Monday August 21 and until the end of November, on the E429/A8, between interchange No. 31 Frasnes-lez-Anvaing and the Tournai interchange, one lane will be maintained by direction with a maximum speed limited to 70 km/h.
In the direction of France, users will drive on the left lane on the side usually receiving traffic to Brussels and towards the capital, users will drive on the right lane.
In the direction of Tournai, interchange No. 31 Frasnes-lez-Anvaing will be handled from Monday August 21 until Sunday August 27. It will therefore be impossible, in this direction, to take the access and exit ramps of the interchange (diversion for the exit via the previous interchange and for access via the N529 and N48). The interchange will be free for the start of the school year.
This Wednesday, August 16, in the direction of Brussels, as part of the development of police crossings, a lane will be removed at the height of the start and end of the construction zone.
The signage will be gradually put in place from Thursday August 17 until Monday August 21.
This project represents a budget of nearly 5.2 million excluding VAT financed by SOFICO, the contracting authority. It will be carried out in collaboration with its technical partner: the SPW Mobility and Infrastructures, prime contractor.
Eurovia Belgium was appointed by public contract to carry out this work.
