Every March 23, World Rehabilitation Day is commemorated, with the aim of raising awareness among the population regarding its importance. According to data provided by the WHO (World Health Organization) in 2023, it is estimated that 2.4 billion people have a health condition for which rehabilitation might be beneficial.

The WHO defines rehabilitation as a set of interventions aimed at optimizing functioning and reducing disability in people with health conditions in interaction with their environment.

methods that fit your needs.

closest to the person, so that it can accompany them in this process, and to society in general, which must provide opportunities for inclusion and coexistence.

Rehabilitation can take place at any time in life and cover various areas, involving different health professionals, among whom can be found: neurologists, psychiatrists, occupational and recreational therapists, speech therapists, kinesiologists, music therapists, neuropsychologists, psychotherapists, among others. others. Therefore, interdisciplinary and comprehensive treatments are usually carried out.

“At the same time, adequate rehabilitation at different stages of life contributes to promoting healthy aging. As well as, in case of presenting some type of deterioration or compromise of skills, rehabilitation seeks to improve quality of life.
and promote the autonomy of patients, through different stimulation activities,” says Ms. Fiorino.

In addition, it is a means of support for their families and caregivers.

“In this way, a diagnostic plan is made and, based on it, the patient’s needs are evaluated and an interdisciplinary work scheme is proposed that includes the participation of various areas,” explains Laura Martínez Kuhn, Graduate in Occupational Therapy. of INECO and Coordinator of the INECO CASA Program.
