The central library of Barcelona, ​​which honors the Anzoatiguense educator Julián Temístocles Maza, was rehabilitated and handed over by the authorities, this Monday, June 24.

The improvements to the infrastructure, located in the historic center of the capital city of Anzoátegui, consisted of restoration of walls, floor, electrical system, drains, sanitary areas, roof, general cleaning and removal of debris, in addition to decoration.

Governor Luis José Marcano and Mayor Sugey Herrera toured the renovated spaces that house more than 25 thousand titles and more than 92 thousand volumes of books, and with the capacity to house 350 readers simultaneously.

Marcano recalled that the rehabilitation of the library is part of the recovery plan for the historic center of the capital city, which he has been carrying out for several years, and with the construction of the large Plaza Libertadores, which he described as the most symbolic element in terms of infrastructure investment, the areas near the square, such as the library, are now being attended to.

“We have prioritized this space, which is the Julián Temístocles Maza public library, a heritage place, a historical and significant place for education, for the culture of the Anzoátegui state, for the east of the country in general,” said Marcano.

Likewise, he explained that a first investment was made for its rehabilitation, especially in the areas that were very affected, referring to the second floor that was disabled due to the collapse of the roof, where he said a reconstruction was made that involved a large investment.

During the tour he announced that the library amphitheater will be recovered, which for regarding 30 years was disabled by a fire, so the sanitation of the space has already been carried out and with the accompaniment of the military and civil authorities the work was visualized. carry out.

The regional leader specified that the regional executive has been working on improvements to the state’s library network and mentioned that the Clarines library has already been intervened, “and now on the road we have the Aragua library in Barcelona, ​​which is also important.”

He mentioned that they are not only working on improvements to the network infrastructure, they are designing adaptations to new times, which translates into having digital and technological instruments that allow the use of these spaces to be much more appropriate, much more feasible and more accessible for the entire population.

The regional leader concluded the tour of the renovated infrastructure with the signing of Decree No. 69, which declares the Julián Temístocle Maza Library of Barcelona as an asset of cultural interest.

Through the legal instrument, the Education Directorate of the Government is instructed to begin the “administrative procedure before the Cultural Heritage Institute (IPC), in order for the building where the Julián Temístocles Maza Central Public Library operates to be declared Cultural heritage”.

It is also established that “The Government of the Anzoátegui state will promote, together with those directly responsible for the property, the means of care and safeguarding so that the present Asset of Cultural Interest declared in this act, maintains its values ​​over time and serves as a reference for the other states of the country in the preservation and management of their Assets of Cultural Interest.”

The central library of the Anzoátegui state, as it is also known, offers reference and counter-reference services to the community, newspaper library consultation, circulating loans, reading squads and educational and cultural promotion and dissemination activities, as well as activities for educational promotion of reading teaching.

The sole authority of the regional library network, Sergio Teixeira Gutiérrez, explained that the number of users is around 10 thousand people per year.

He explained that it has 69 workers and that they have the Mirlian Rodríguez Children’s rooms, the Rigoberto Cardivillo Social rooms, the Dr. Tarek Williams Saab Literature rooms, and the Pedro Contreras Geography and History rooms, among others.
