The government has completed revising Minister of Trade Regulation (Permendag) Number 3 of 2024 concerning Amendments to Minister of Trade Regulation Number 36 of 2023, to become Minister of Trade Regulation Number 7 of 2024 concerning Import Policies and Regulations.

This revision changes at least three main points, namely regarding goods sent by Indonesian migrant workers (PMI), rules on prohibitions and restrictions (lartas) on imports of goods, and luggage of passengers from abroad.

“I signed this Permendag yesterday, so it’s no longer Permendag 36. This has been revised to Permendag 7,” said Zulkifli in Jakarta, Tuesday.

With the new regulation, he said the rules regarding restrictions on personal luggage from outside no longer apply. Passengers are allowed to bring the desired amount of goods as long as they pay the tax on their luggage.

“If you want to buy shoes, you want two, you want three, you want four, as long as you pay tax, it doesn’t matter. So you want to buy five, you want to buy six, whatever, but you pay tax,” explained the man who is familiarly called Zulhas.

However, some electronic items such as cell phones and laptops are still limited due to security and other reasons.

Then, in the revised Minister of Trade Regulation 7/2024 relating to goods sent by PMI, the Minister of Trade Regulation no longer needs to regulate the quantity and type, as long as it complies with the stipulated provisions for the value of the goods, namely US$1,500 and is limited to US$500 three times a year.

Furthermore, regarding the luggage of foreign passengers, these regulations are once more stipulated through the Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK), especially regarding the provisions on goods that are free from import duties and taxes.

Apart from that, in Minister of Trade Regulation 7/2024 there are several commodities that are no longer included in import prohibitions and restrictions (lartas), such as fortifying premixes or auxiliary ingredients for wheat flour, industrial raw materials, lubricants and others. (Z-11)
