The most common type of pancreatic cancer is adenocarcinoma of the pancreas, which arises when exocrine cells in the pancreas begin to grow out of control. Most of the pancreas is made up of exocrine cells that form the exocrine glands and ducts.

The other less common types of exocrine pancreatic cancer include adenosquamous carcinomas, squamous cell carcinomas, signet ring cell carcinomas, undifferentiated carcinomas, and undifferentiated giant cell carcinomas.
