The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has set out seven key principles for the regulation and ethical use of artificial intelligence technologies.
What we know
The CMA focused on core models such as GPT-4 or Llama 2, which form the basis of many generative AI services. Developers and users of these models must respect the following principles:
Responsibility ; Availability of input data; Diversity of business models; Choice of models by users; Flexibility in the use of different models; Fair competition; Transparency of risks for consumers.
The CMA said these principles were necessary to protect competition and prevent the proliferation of ineffective AI systems. Weakening rivalry might lead to market monopolization and product deterioration, the regulator said.
Although AI raises other regulatory issues, the CMA has chosen to focus on competition aspects.
