Registration for vaccination with Valneva starts

Coronavirus

From today you can register for a vaccination with Valneva’s CoV inactivated vaccine. The vaccinations at the Austria Center will then start on September 1st, with 14,600 doses available for Vienna alone.

You can now register for an appointment for a vaccination with the Valneva vaccine both online and by telephone via the health hotline 1450. From September, the vaccinations will be administered daily between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. in the Austria Center in Donaustadt. Although an appointment reservation is recommended, immunization without an appointment is also possible.

Alternative to previous CoV vaccines

Valneva’s inactivated vaccine contains killed components of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and, according to experts, offers an alternative for those people who reject mRNA vaccines or vector vaccines, for example.

The European Medicines Agency recommends the vaccine as a primary vaccination for people aged 18 to 50. Detailed information on cross-vaccinations should be available in the next few days, with AGES and the Ministry of Health taking the lead, according to the office of City Councilor for Health Peter Hacker (SPÖ).

Extent of demand still unknown

Since there was no pre-registration for vaccination with the Valneva vaccine, according to the City of Vienna, it is not yet known how many people are interested in the vaccine. A total of 74,000 cans are available throughout Austria, Vienna will receive up to 14,600 cans.

First of all, they want to order significantly fewer, as it is not yet clear how many cans will actually be needed. The aim is to throw away as little as possible, since the vaccine has a shelf life of only 20 days, according to the City Health Council Office. If the demand for the vaccine was too great, additional vaccine would be obtained quickly.
