Regional traffic: Massive problems between Munich and Augsburg

A defective signal box affects train traffic between Munich main station and Augsburg main station. The tracks can only be used to a limited extent. There are sometimes long delays and partial cancellations. Technicians have been on duty since Monday morning to narrow down the defect more precisely.

Only one train per hour and direction

Only one train per hour and direction can cover the distance between Augsburg main station and Munich main station pass at times. Long-distance trains such as ICE and Intercity in the direction of and from Nuremberg are diverted via Ingolstadt. Long-distance trains from Stuttgart may turn around in Augsburg.

Dodge via Geltendorf and Buchloe

Geltendorf is also used for detours. Regional trains from the direction of Ulm or Treuchtlingen mostly end in Augsburg. The train also refers passengers to alternative travel options with regional trains via Buchloe. Travelers must continue to be prepared for significantly longer travel times. Alternatively, the train between Mammendorf and Mering has set up a replacement bus service. The train announced this via the short message service Twitter.

Bahn names vandalism as the cause

The Bavarian Regiobahn now calls vandalism the cause of the numerous signal failures in the Mammendorf control area – between Mering and Olching. There is said to have been an arson attack. The federal police are investigating. On the other hand, according to information from the DPA news agency, the railway police do not yet want to determine whether the damage to a cable duct near Mering is “due to wear and tear or the influence of third parties”.

Disturbances can continue until Tuesday

According to a railway spokesman, the route should be at least partially passable once more by Tuesday morning at the latest. The other two tracks should be usable once more from Wednesday morning. There is no prioritization of the trains: Both long-distance trains and regional trains are allowed to run on the tracks.

According to the Bavarian Regiobahn, major delays and cancellations can be expected on the section between Augsburg and Weilheim until Tuesday, August 2nd.
