Regional Rapprochement: US and Saudi Arabia Join Forces to Ease Middle Eastern Tensions

According to a statement by the Saudi Ministry of Defense, the call reviewed “the strategic relations between the two countries and ways to enhance them within the framework of the defense partnership between the two countries.”

She indicated that the two ministers discussed the latest regional and international developments and the efforts made to reduce the escalation in the region and its repercussions to ensure its security and stability.

The Saudi statement did not reveal further details about the two ministers’ discussions.

Last Sunday, Saudi Arabia confirmed that it is following with great concern the developments of the current events in Lebanon, stressing the need to preserve Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Kingdom affirmed its support for the Lebanese people in facing the repercussions of these events and the need to limit their humanitarian consequences.

The region is witnessing increasing tension due to the escalating Israeli attacks in Lebanon after a year of war in Gaza.

Last week, Iran launched a missile attack on Israel, which it said was a response to the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, Hassan Nasrallah, and the commander of the Quds Force of the Revolutionary Guard, Abbas Nilfaroushan.

Israel vowed to respond, saying, “Iran made a mistake and will pay the price,” while American officials said that the United States is studying options for responding to the Iranian missile attack on Israel.

For its part, the Revolutionary Guard said that it would respond more strongly to Israel if it carried out “any new recklessness.”

The countries of the region fear the escalation of tension between Israel and Iran, which could drag the region into a comprehensive regional war.
