Since the beginning of April, due to financial difficulties, the Liepaja newspaper “Kurzemes Vārds” has been delivered not by the subscriber center itself, but by the post office. Some subscribers are unhappy with this because they now have to receive the newspaper at noon rather than before 8am as usual.
The editors are concerned that they may have to lose a significant number of subscribers. Previously, when the newspaper “Kurzemes Vārds” was delivered by its subscription center, people received it before breakfast, around 7, but now the postwoman puts the first morning newspaper in the mailbox at 9.43.
Some residents interviewed by TV Kurzeme are unhappy with this fact. The newspaper “Kurzemes Vārds” now has 3.5 thousand subscribers. Recently the number of subscribers has been declining by 150 per year, and the editor fears that there may be even fewer in the future.
“People say: “If you don’t bring me the newspaper by eight in the morning, then I don’t need it anymore, because I’ll read it at work, I’ll read it on the Internet.” This worries us because there may be fewer subscribers, and this is our core business. , largely dependent on the delivery of “Latvijas pasts”,” said the editor of “Kurzemes Vārds” Ints Grasis.
Another regional newspaper “Talsu Vēstis” is also indignant because it often feels like a hostage to “Latvijas pasts”. The newspaper is delivered very late, sometimes only at seven in the evening.
