This project was born from the partnership between the Regional Cancer Screening Coordination Center (CRCDC) Nouvelle Aquitaine and the Multidisciplinary Health Center (MSP) of Bedous which prioritizes actions aimed at its patients. “Prevention means allowing the disease to not take a turn for the worse. With screening, the earlier we detect an illness, the sooner we act on it,” explains Caroline Dutoit-Cosson, doctor at the CRCDC.

The actors of the project, financed by the Coup de Pouce grant, from the Mutualité sociale agricole (MSA), the coordinator Marlène Caussanel, a nurse and a midwife from the MSP met at the MSP on January 12 to present it. Some 300 people in the valley affected, depending on the age group, by the screening for the cancers mentioned, will be informed by various means of the operation and its importance; to this will be added personalized telephone calls for people who have not been screened, to make screening appointments for the three types of cancer.

48 hours

With, possibly, a home visit to familiarize yourself with the tests: mammogram, smear, FIT. The effectiveness of the screening procedure will be confirmed by a telephone call: 48 hours before the screening appointment and one week later for the patient’s opinion on this examination.

The Aspe valley is an area with a participation rate for these screenings lower than the rate in the department: 43.7% compared to 53.1% for breast cancer, and 30% compared to 32.1% for colorectal; the European rates being 70%, 65% and 80% for uterine cancer. Tests and analyzes are free.

In the case of screening for cervical cancer, the cost of the consultation and smear is the responsibility of the person. People outside the MSP can contact her and ask if screening is possible. Contact MSP: 05 59 88 09 73.
