THE nomination stage for regional heads for the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections is getting closer. Bawaslu RI has asked regional officials to be careful in monitoring the nomination requirements, both those nominated by political parties and from individual or independent routes.

It is known that the provincial and district/city KPU will open registration for three days, namely August 27-29, 2024. Bawaslu RI member Totok Hariyono emphasized that his party has the responsibility to supervise, prevent, and take action against any violations in the stages of the regional elections, including during the nomination process.

“We must supervise each stage in detail and that is our duty as election supervisors, especially for the current nomination stage, for individual support, researchers must really be supervised,” said Totok in a written statement, Monday (12/8).

He reminded the regional Bawaslu ranks to really supervise the registration process of prospective regional head candidate pairs (cakada). This is needed to find out whether or not the candidates are eligible to meet the requirements as participants in the 2024 Pilkada.

“If he is not worthy or has broken the law, well, don’t make it easy. Please don’t waste the people’s trust and the people’s dream of getting an honest leader who does not break the law,” explained Totok.

Several things that need to be monitored by the regional Bawaslu ranks carefully, continued Totok, are age limits and last education. For information, the minimum age requirement for regional head candidates in the 2024 Pilkada has changed from the previous contest through the Supreme Court (MA) decision.

The Supreme Court changed the interpretation of the minimum age requirement for candidates, namely 30 for governor-deputy governor and 25 for regent-deputy regent or mayor-deputy mayor, from the previous requirement since being determined as a candidate pair to since being inaugurated as an elected candidate pair.

The determination of the candidate pairs will be carried out by the KPU on September 22, 2024. Three days later, the 2024 Pilkada campaign stage will begin. Meanwhile, the voting day is scheduled for November 27.

The plan is for the simultaneous inauguration of the elected governor and deputy governor on February 7, 2025, while the elected regent and deputy regent or mayor and deputy mayor will be inaugurated on February 10, 2025.

“Don’t let there be any interests and pass the unworthy. Because we are responsible and have been given a mandate by law to oversee the process,” he concluded. (J-2)
