From the Directorate of Agricultural Economy P.E. ACHAIAS announces that in order to prevent bee population losses due to incomplete application of the general principles of integrated plant protection or incorrect use of pesticides, especially during the flowering period, measures should be taken.
According to the relevant Decree (8197/90920/22-7-2013 Decree (B/1883), the general principles of integrated plant protection are made mandatory by professional users of pesticides, specifically:
- Rational biological, natural and other non-chemical methods should be preferred over chemical methods as long as they provide satisfactory pest control.
- Pesticides applied should be as target-specific as possible and have the fewest side effects on human health, non-target organisms and the environment.
- The protection and strengthening of important beneficial organisms (such as bees), with appropriate plant protection measures (times and methods of spraying).
- Preventive sprays should be avoided and preparations should be preferred that do not harm beneficial insects (eg bees) and mites, which are active at this time of year.
- Follow the instructions for the correct use of agricultural drugs (spraying conditions, maintenance of spraying machines, minimum spraying distances, posting of a relevant sign 48 hours before spraying, etc.).
- To read and faithfully apply the instructions written on the label of plant protection products.
Finally, it is recalled that the responsible scientists-registrars of the sales outlets owe:
- To take into account the above principles and issue the corresponding prescriptions
- And to inform the trading professional users regarding the measures to protect people, of the environment and bees when using pesticides.
