Reggie Jackson repeats that Paul George ‘saved’ his career

His tears during the summer of 2021 had been enough to understand how much the Clippers saved the career of Reggie Jackson. The playmaker was then coming out of a superb playoff campaign, where he had displayed his best level.

However, a few months earlier, following a mixed experience with the Pistons, he thought of retiring, at only 29 years old!

“When I was in Detroit, from a personal point of view, it was fun”says the player for Paul George’s summer camp. “For the franchise, it was less so. We didn’t earn much. We certainly made the playoffs, but I was weighed down by injuries. So I was entitled to doubts, criticism from fans, detractors. I really started asking myself questions. And I got to a point where the fun part was gone, so I was really thinking regarding ending my career. »

Reggie Jackson was cut by the Pistons and eventually bounced back to Los Angeles. Thanks to the intervention of Paul George, who had just arrived there (with Kawhi Leonard) since the 2019 offseason.

“The reason I’m seen so happy is because this guy saved me. He called me and said the Clippers were coming to get me. We laughed that day, because I ruled out that possibility. I thought it was wrong, that I was going to retire. »

The first few weeks with the Clippers, in this pandemic-cut 2019/20 fiscal year, were not perfect, but since the start of the following season, the former Thunder player has been a starter, he is very good, while being essential to the Californians.

And as the group is ambitious for 2023, all is well in the best of worlds for Reggie Jackson.

“I think we have great years ahead. The last two have been good. We have the best coach in the league, in my opinion, with Tyronn Lue. We have one goal in mind: to be the last team. We just have to stay healthy. I want us to have a great season with the guys, without injuries. »
