Osaka University hereby announces that as of August 21, 2021, the following two disciplinary actions have been taken.

○ Case summary
On Wednesday, June 5, 2020, the subject was arrested on the spot in Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo for secretly filming a woman with a smartphone (allegedly violating the “Penalty Act for Filming Sex Scenes”). In addition, the school investigation confirmed the facts and explained that in addition to the above-mentioned secret filming, other secret filming incidents had also occurred.
Although the person being punished has admitted the facts and expressed his willingness to apologize, his behavior has seriously damaged the honor and credibility of our school, seriously disrupted the school’s atmosphere and order, and constituted a “criminal offense.” The acts committed under items 5, 6 and 9 of Article 37, paragraph 1, of the Work Regulations therefore cannot maintain the employment relationship, and therefore the same applies according to Article 2, paragraph 2.

On June 21, 2020 (Friday), the subject secretly photographed a woman with a smartphone at a station in Kyoto City, and admitted to this act when questioned by the police. In addition, the university’s investigation confirmed the facts and explained that in addition to the above-mentioned voyeurism, he also secretly took photos.
Although the person being punished has admitted the facts and expressed his willingness to apologize, his behavior has seriously damaged the honor and credibility of our school, seriously disrupted the school’s atmosphere and order, and constituted a “criminal offense.” The acts committed under items 5, 6 and 9 of Article 37, paragraph 1, of the Work Regulations therefore cannot maintain the employment relationship, and therefore the same applies according to Article 2, paragraph 2.
Two faculty members at our university were caught secretly filming themselves in a public place. We deeply regret that such an incident occurred and deeply apologize for deeply damaging the dignity of the victim and causing great inconvenience and concern to all students and related parties. This behavior is unacceptable for someone who holds education and research to high ethical standards, will never be tolerated, and will be dealt with severely.
The school attaches great importance to this matter and will work hard to ensure that faculty and staff abide by the law, enforce strict service discipline, and restore trust.
In addition, in order to avoid any adverse impact on students, the school will make every effort to transfer courses taught by the same person to other staff members, including providing emotional care to students.
