Exposed to wind and waves without protection: This is how the three refugees made it to Europe.
Miraculously, three African refugees survived a breakneck crossing from Nigeria to Gran Canaria (Spain). The men waited eleven days at the helm of an oil tanker to get to Europe. The ghost passengers climbed onto the “Alithini II” in the port of Lagos on November 17.
The refugees remained undiscovered on the rudder of the oil tanker. But they were exposed to wind and waves without protection. On Gran Canaria they were picked up by the Spanish coast guard on Monday and supplied with the most important things while they were still at the dock.
Taken to hospital for dehydration
“They were tired and showing signs of hypothermia and upon arrival at port they were treated by health services,” the Coast Guard said in a statement. The rescued were “moderately dehydrated” and needed hospital treatment, the emergency call 112 explains on Twitter.
The Spanish authorities took the three refugees to nearby hospitals. There they were treated for dehydration. (SDA/noo)
