Refugees in St. Margarethen: The first stood in the snow with sneakers on

A year ago, the first refugees came to St. Margarethen in Lungau. Dedicated locals take care of them.

The Kolping House is a place to stay for around 30 displaced persons from the Ukraine. They live in rooms with bathrooms and share a kitchen. The time passed incredibly quickly, says Klaus Mittendorfer. At the beginning of the war, the director of the Multiaugustinum private school received a call from Caritas asking whether the building, which had once been used as a boarding school, was available. “Since we didn’t need it ourselves, I agreed at short notice. I thought it would be for three months.”
