In Khartoum, the very fragile three-day truce, little respected, was renewed this Sunday a few hours before it expires. The latest battle toll reports at least 528 dead and nearly 4,600 wounded. According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, almost 6000 people have already found refuge on Central African territory, mainly women and children. « This figure is made up of 70% women, 15% girls and 10% men and around 400 returnees “Said UNHCR in a tweet on Saturday, the authenticity of which was confirmed on Sunday by one of its representatives in the Central African Republic.
Solidarity is organized
Thus, on the border between the Central African Republic and Sudan, solidarity is organized. “ For the moment, people are living with the locals, for those who have been a little lucky. Other people moved into makeshift shelters. I heard of a disused school where they took shelter. There are also some people who are under the stars, but the majority is with the locals, explains the UNHCR representative in the Central African Republic, Fafa Olivier Attidzah. These are conditions that are a bit difficult. It is necessary to implement a sanitation system and above all to find water and food for them. […] Intervention is needed for those who have not had the chance to be accommodated. And those who have had the chance to stay with the locals, they will constitute a burden on the host populations, which would not be tenable in the long term. »
For the moment, the refugees who are there do not wish to leave the border in order to have an eye on their belongings on the other side of the border since the conditions do not prevent them from returning there from time to time.

The Central African Republic, one of the poorest countries in the world in the grip of a civil war for several years, shares a border with Sudan in the province of Vakaga (north-east). On Thursday, the UN Humanitarian Coordination Office (Ocha) announced that nearly 3,000 people had entered the country and were living in ” spontaneous camps near the border town of Am-Dafock. ” Traffic between Sudan and CAR has been severely disrupted, leading to a sharp increase in the price of basic necessities “, also worried the organization, while” 120,000 people need food assistance in the north of the country.
In Birao, capital of Vakaga, the price of a bag of sugar (50 kg) has doubled since the start of the conflict to reach 80,000 CFA francs (122 euros), underlines Ocha. According to the UN, 75,000 people are displaced inside Sudan, and at least 20,000 have fled to Chad, 4,000 to South Sudan, 3,500 to Ethiopia. In total, up to 270,000 people might flee if the war continues.
