Refreshed pioneer: the new DS 7

The DS 7 has been revised and adapted to the new brand strategy.

After five years on the market, it was time for a makeover for DS Automobiles’ blockbuster. The dimensions of the mid-range SUV remain almost unchanged, but a lot is happening under the upgraded bodywork. DS Automobiles has settled accounts with the combustion engine and intends to only sell purely electric vehicles from 2025.

With the facelift, the DS 7 loses the addition “Crossback” and is now available with four engines. The petrol engine flies completely out of the program, but with the 360 hp plug-in hybrid, a new top motorization is used. The top model drives all four wheels and accelerates the DS 7 from a standstill to country road speed in just 5.6 seconds. The 300 hp plug-in hybrid variant, which also has all-wheel drive and is exempt from the NoVA, is particularly attractive for the Austrian market. The drive quartet is completed with the 225 hp part-time electric vehicle and a 130 hp diesel, which remains in the program for frequent drivers and fleet customers.

Innovations on the front of the DS7

DS is known for its creative and unusual light designs and this line also prevails with the new DS 7. The new daytime running lights with a waterfall-like design immediately catch the eye, but they are only part of the changes to the front, which has been completely revised. The newly designed grille now consists of fine mesh elements, which in combination with the streamlined lines and sleeker headlights look even more luxurious. In order to also appeal to younger customers in the future, the new DS 7 dispenses almost entirely with chrome elements, thus increasing the visual sportiness. A new trim strip stands out at the rear of the SUV, which connects the somewhat narrower rear lights in a honeycomb design and underlines the beefy appearance of the DS 7.

High-quality impression in the interior

Inside, the Parisians are giving the bestseller a new 12-inch touchscreen and a more intelligent voice control called DS Iris. The seats remain as comfortable as ever, but are now upholstered in new nappa leather. From the second equipment line, black or gray leather is standard and in the DS performance variant, the occupants sit on sporty Alcantara. When first contacting the DS Store in Vienna, the DS 7 makes a very high-quality impression and the workmanship is also impeccable. At almost 4.6 meters, the DS 7 plays in the league of the Audi Q5 and BMW X3 and the trunk volume is also impressive, because with a capacity of 555 liters the Frenchman even beats the competition from Germany. In terms of price, the Frenchman undercuts its competitors, because the 130 hp diesel version starts at around 47,000 euros and the plug-in hybrid costs at least 53,550 euros. In addition, the refreshed DS 7 scores with extensive standard equipment and will be available in dealerships from late autumn.
