Feet, hands but also skull and even face… Reflexology corresponds to a manual technique which aims, through a specific touch, to dissipate bodily tensions and therefore to relax. It is practiced by a reflexologist. Discovery.
Coming from ancestral Chinese medicine, reflexology focuses mainly on areas of the feet or hands, corresponding to an organ or part of the body. According to the National Academy of Medicine, this discipline is part of what is known as “alternative” medicine.
The French Federation of reflexologists speaks of a “natural medicine”, originating according to the sources, from Egypt or China. For its representatives, reflexology “promotes overall relaxation, prevents stress-related disorders and stimulates self-regulatory functions”. How ? “ Rhythmic pressures applied to reflex zones make it possible to localize tensions and restore balance in the corresponding parts of the body”. With the objective of“Improve the quality of life of the client whatever their age: child, teenager, adult and senior”.
Relax, prevent, relieve…
More specifically, reflexology has three main objectives: first, “relax, stress being the cause of many physical and mental dysfunctions”. Ensuite, “activate blood and lymphatic circulation, mobilize waste, stimulate emunctories” (the organs or channels used to eliminate waste, evacuate secretions from the body and regulate the nervous system, editor’s note). And finally : “prevent, relieve, even eliminate a large number of disorders and promote self-regulation”.
