Referendum on changing the Constitution starts in Kazakhstan

The referendum on amendments and additions to the Constitution will be held on June 5 in Kazakhstan. The amendments will affect more than 30 articles of the document, which is one third of the main law, the Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan reported.
Voting by precinct referendum commissions is provided from 07:00 to 20:00 local time (from 04:00 to 17:00 Moscow time). To recognize the plebiscite as valid, it is necessary that 50% of voters take part in it, as well as one voter.
Amendments and additions to the Constitution are considered adopted if more than half of the citizens voted for them in at least two-thirds of the regions, cities of republican significance and the capital, that is, in 12 out of 17 regions. The Central Referendum Commission shall publish the results of the plebiscite within seven days following the voting.
In total, more than 11.7 million Kazakhstanis are included in the lists of citizens who have the right to participate in the referendum. At present, the population of the republic is more than 19.1 million people.
